Five Things From the 5DP
#1 EdCamp5DP – Registration is Open!
Join us at our first 5DP EdCamp, an unconference for educators!
EdCamp 5DP will take place on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 at Malden High School from 8:30am-12:30pm.
This fantastic, free morning of professional development is lead by teachers and volunteers from across the Five District Partnership, 5DP, from varying areas of interest in education.
An EdCamp is a workshop setting designed specifically for teachers and their professional development needs. Unlike traditional conferences which have schedules set months in advance, an EdCamp has an agenda of topics that is created by the participants through a facilitated session at the start of the event. You and other participants will create a set of sessions that meet your needs and interests. This is an open forum for discussions on a wide range of topics within K-12 education, and we hope that you will leave inspired, empowered, and connected to new colleagues!
Built on principles of connected and participatory learning, EdCamp 5DP strives to bring teachers together to talk about the things that matter most to them: their interests, passions, and questions. EdCamp is based on the principle that participants can facilitate sessions on topics of interest, the assumption that the experts are already in the room, and that all can work together to build understanding by sharing their own knowledge and questions.
Check-in starts at 8:00am. Click HERE to register!
#2 5DP History and Social Science Teachers Workshop
On November 19th, 45 middle and high school history and social science educators came together at Revere High School to spend the day learning about the new History and Social Science Curriculum Frameworks. The new standards were approved by the state Board of Education in June and will be implemented over the course of the next few years. The changes are significant in some grades and are exciting for educators. They focus more on civics education, and the state legislature has approved a requirement for a civics project before graduation. Michele Ryan, the History and Social Science Curriculum Lead from DESE, presented to the group, and then teachers worked in cross district groups to unpack the standards and dive into what this means for their courses. The 5DP will work together to turn these frameworks into year long plans, curriculum units, and a set of resources for teachers.

#4 InSPIRED Fellowship Application 2018-2019
Become an InSPIRED Fellow!
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is now accepting applications for the inaugural cohort of InSPIRED Fellows! This highly-selective opportunity is for current teachers with close connections to their school-communities and the ability to connect with students in target districts, to recruit the next generation of diverse, effective teachers. - Engage in targeted follow-up with at least 20 students
- Activate a network of supports and resources for interested students in pursuing various pathways into the profession
- Increase the retention rates of current educators committed to a diverse workforce.
To do this, the Fellowship is structured to:
